Two things about pale cotton

It reads slightly sheer in strong sunlight — that is simply what pale fabric does, and a short kaftan is normally worn over leggings or trousers anyway.

Never bleach it. Bleach yellows cotton over time and is harsh on embroidery thread. Wash away from darks and dry in shade, and off-white stays off-white.

About the threadwork

Aari is the Kashmiri chain-stitch style, worked in flowing floral and leaf motifs. The stitches sit slightly raised on the cloth, which is what gives the yoke its texture and depth rather than the flat look of a print. Slight variation in colour placement and motif detail between pieces is normal and not a defect.
